Burmese ruby and diamond ring
Elmwood’s is delighted to announce the sale of a gorgeous 10.90 carat Burma ruby and diamond ring, which achieved £104000 at auction on Wednesday 25th March.
"Natural rubies [...] over 10 carats come onto the market infrequently"
The ruby and diamond ring is in 18ct yellow gold, set with an oval cut ruby of 10.90 carats within a jewelled mount of round cut diamonds totalling approximately 5.00 carats, and is of French design. The ruby is accompanied by a gemmological report, confirming it is of the Burmese (Myanmar) origin, with no indications of heat treatment, meaning it is natural and unheated.
The Burmese ruby is prized above all for its stunning bluish-red body colour coupled with its characteristic bright red fluorescence, giving it an intense fusion of colours and vivid appearance. This is coupled with silk-like inclusions that increase the dispersion of light, giving a huge amount of life to the stone.
Natural rubies above 5 carats are extremely rare and stones of over 10 carats come onto the market infrequently, making it a highly sought-after collectors piece.
